Between October 17-21, 2022, the Land Information Working Group (LIWG) in coordination with Helvetas Laos organized a training of trainer on " The Rights of Lao Citizens on Customary Land, Natural Resources and Conflict Resolution " for the PIASVC project, which was led by the training team from the LIFE project and participated by the member organizations of the LIWG that were selected to receive sub-grants to implement the project in the target areas throughout the Lao PDR.
This training focused on making the participants understand customary land rights. The content of the training is aimed at the rights of the Lao people to the use of land and natural resources, the obligations of those who have the land use right, the loss of the land use right, the protection of the land use right, and the participation of men and women in relation to land. Also, aimed at conflict resolution, Rights of complainant to access to justice, and problems solving and dispute resolution on land conflict. At this time, the trainer also introduced SMART planning and led the participants to write a plan to disseminate information at the local level.
The special highlight of this training was to visit the target villages of the Association for the Development of Women and Legal Education (ADWLE), such as Pak Sab Kao Village and Non Tae Village, Xaytani District, Vientiane, together with the representatives from the surrounding target villages so that the participants could learn about the problems and actual case studies from the villagers who are affected by the project in the area. Also, there was an exchange about how to resolve disputes and providing legal aid of the Village Conflict Resolution Committee with representatives from the Department of Land providing information and clarifying the situation and issues related to land. This will be an experience for the participants to implement activities in their project area in the future.
This training was the last time in this training series of the PIASVC project. However, the participants will continue to participate in the training of trainers in the dissemination of the Legal Calendar 2023 that will be held in November 2022.
