The event was organized on 28–29 April 2026 at the Double Tree by Hilton hotel in Vientiane. It was a collaborative effort organized by the Department of Land Administration and Management (DLAM), the PIASVC project under Helvetas Laos, and the ESLR project.
The atmosphere in the room was so energetic and friendly because the event was designed as a hands-on working session, not just sitting and listening to speeches. The main goal was to turn the lessons learned from the PIASVC and ESLR projects into shared, practical steps for government and civil society partners. For the workshop outputs, participants worked together to build "Problem Trees" and "Solution Trees" to diagnose real issues. For example, they tackled the challenge of low individual land ownership among women in certain ethnic groups. Together, they mapped out concrete, actionable solutions, such as creating local-language materials, recruiting more non-Lao-Tai women facilitators, and adjusting community meeting times to better fit women's daily schedules.
What did the participants love the most? The absolute favorite topics were FPIC (Free, Prior and Informed Consent) and women's land rights! Many people mentioned that they gained valuable new knowledge and specifically loved using the "Problem Tree" tool to clearly see the deep roots of community issues. Moving forward, the impact is going to be very real because participants committed to actively adapting these new tools into their own projects. They plan to change the way they run community awareness campaigns right away, making sure land registration in communities becomes more inclusive, transparent, and fair for everyone
